Registering Your Marriage in Singapore
Congrats on making this decision to take a huge leap forward in your life. So having finished the proposal (be it a simple let’s buy a HDB or a formal proposal), the next step you would be looking at to register your marriage in the eyes of the law.
Before we go into the details on the different option on how to hold the registering ceremony, let’s first list out the steps that all couples have to go through in order to register your marriage.
Online Registration with ROM
First visit www.rom.gov.sg. From there you will notice a earliest and latest solemnisation date (see picture below highlighted by blue box) at a glance right below their navigation menu. With this you can have an estimation on when your ROM can be held.
If the date is to your liking, go to services>file notice of marriage. From there are about 6 pages of information you have to fill up. At the end you can expect to pay a fee of $42 (if 1 or both couple are holding a pink or blue Identity Card) or $380 (for foreigners).
Finally print out the Summary of Notice of Marriage which will contain all the important information and is required for the next step where you personally have to go down to ROM (regardless if your ceremony is held there or at a different location and date).
Visiting ROM:
Once the online submission is done, your next step is to visit ROM (regardless if you are holding your ceremony at ROM or at another location). This is for the verification of documents and the statutory declaration and also the collection of your marriage certificate and license should you be conducting your ceremony at a different location.
*Crucial information: if you are holding your marriage outside of ROM, you must first find a solemnizer and have him sign the consent form. Many couples tend to get their plans messed up when they realise that they cannot make the booking without a solemnizer prepared before hand.
